In the next few days Al Meera Consumer Goods Company is set to sell 1,438 products at cost price aimed at providing consumers with affordable goods in the lead and up to the holy month of Ramadan.
The carefully-selected items will be displayed in 35 Al Meera stores across Qatar, including Géant Hypermarket, as part of its community-based campaign dubbed as ‘an abundance of good, in the month of goodness.’
“Our Ramadan campaign is our way of giving back to our loyal customers, who have continued supporting us throughout the 11 years,” Al Meera’s acting CEO, sales and operations director Cobus Lombard told reporters at a press conference at the company’s headquarters at West Bay.
Al Meera is currently working with its suppliers to have 960 offers on ‘fast-moving consumer goods’ and around 350 offers on household items. It sold 1,000 products in 2015 and 1,437 in 2016, and 1,438 this year in honour for the current Islamic year 1438AH.
Lombard noted that they have been collaborating with local and overseas suppliers to supply and import the best products from the company’s various sources prior to Ramadan. These include Thailand, the US, Turkey, Vietnam, and the UK, among others.
Al Meera will also use special labels to designate around the items will be priced by Qatar’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC).
Lombard said they will also continue to provide adequate quantities of “Tamween” products for Qatari national at 34 branches of Al Meera’s shopping centres across the country during Ramadan.
“Our Ramadan campaign will kick off in the next few days. It is part of our corporate social responsibility programme, putting people and the community first,” he stressed.
“This year, consumers will be able to enjoy our special Ramadan offer and our trademark shopping experience in more shopping centers and neighbourhoods, following the opening of several new Al Meera stores in previously underserved regions in the country, living up to our motto of being everyone’s ‘Favourite Neighbourhood Retailer,’” he said.
Al Meera will also support Ramadan programmes and initiatives carried out by charities and associations. It is co-ordinating with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to distribute some items to the main mosques in the country during the blessed month.
“What’s more important is that we always listen to our customers, which is why, in light of the good reception to last year’s Ramadan campaign among consumers, we decided to continue this remarkable tradition this year and offer our valued patrons with even more products at cost price,” Sheikh Thani bin Thamer al-Thani, chairman of the Board of Directors at Al Meera, said in a statement.
Since its inception in 2005, Al Meera has continued to affirm its commitment to Qatar’s social and cultural values and has taken many steps to make a real difference in the shopping experience of community members across the country.
Over the years, the company has developed a number of activities that have become an integral part of its annual commitment to the various segments in society.
In the first quarter of 2017, Al Meera launched a series of humanitarian, social and environmental initiatives that benefitted various sectors of the society. It forged a joint campaign with Qatar National Bank where shoppers can earn 1 bonus Life Rewards point for every QR2 redeemed (with a minimum spend of QR 250).
The company also took part in Qatar Development Bank’s “Moushtarayat 2017” Exhibition and Conference, educating suppliers and local small and medium enterprises on the steps they need to take to partner with Al Meera, claim their space on its store shelves, and become a part of its growing supply chain.
