Poor Filipino Boy Carries His Little Brother To Class So That He Doesn’t Have To Give Up On School.
Shyla Mie Brillantes Blasico, a Facebook user recently shared a story of a nine-year-old boy named Mateo Bano in Phillippines. It went viral because of the determination of the boy.
Shyla, a teacher at the J. Blanco Elementary School located in the province of South Cotabato in Mindanao. Blasico shared the image of 5th grade student, Mateo and informed that the family struggles to fulfil their daily needs. The home takes a beating during bad storm.
The family has three boys and Mateo is the middle son. Things got worse when they lost their mother last year. The father works as a carpenter in another town, Surallah. He has no option of leaving his kids behind when he goes off to work.
Since there is nobody to take care of his younger brother, Mateo brings him to the school and sometimes the elder brother shares the responsibility. The school should be appreciated for allowing him to take the younger brother to classes and also they get lunch as part of the feeding program.
Unfortunately, the brothers don’t get enough food when they are at home. Luckily, some people have donated grocery items to the family after it went viral.
A lot of people have come forward to support the kids and offered money. But, Shyla and her staff have asked the people to donate food and basic school supplies as taking money might accuse them of taking advantage.
