Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, Chairman of National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) said that the issues faced by the migrant workers will be addressed as Qatar has established relations with labor and trade unions to tackle challenges.
Dr Al Marri was speaking at a seminar organised by NHRC in cooperation with European-Qatari Friendship Association in the European parliament. He spoke about the draft law on domestic workers that included specification of working hours, weekly off and other provisions to protect the domestic helps.
The QNHRC works correspondingly with all the international organizations including Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, said Al Marri. A separate database called “National Registry of Persons with Disabilities and Adoption of Building and Road Standards for Persons with Disabilities” for persons with disabilities is being prepared.
Dr Al Marri informed that NHRC conducts field visits to penal and correctional institutions, places of detention, labor gatherings, health and education facilities to make sure the human rights conditions are followed.
