Doctors thought the eight-year-old was screaming because of growing pains – until they found this in her bones! They started treatment immediately
Abri Bentley, an eight-year-old girl suffered unbearable pain in the middle of the night and started to scream. The parents rushed to her and did everything possible before taking her to the ER. The doctors concluded that it was just a “growing pains” after a thorough examination.
However, the pain continued and it only got worse with each passing day for the little girl. Her parents knew that something was wrong aconsulted Phoenix Children’s Hospital. They did a biopsy and got the diagnosis a day later.
The diagnosis said that the girl was suffering from Ewing’s sarcoma, a malignant tumor that attacks the bones or soft tissue, Wasting no time, doctors started chemotherapy immediately. Abri underwent 17 rounds of chemotherapy in total and then had an operation to remove her shin bone, which was replaced by an arm bone from an adult cadaver.
The cute little girl has managed to see the lighter part of it despite going through all the trouble. She calls her new body part “arg”, combination of ‘arm’ and ‘leg’. She is slowly learning to walk on her ‘arg’.
“I am just so happy and thankful and blessed that she’s healthy, and that she’s doing great,” commented Nikkole with tears in her eyes. Abri has gone through more than most kids her age, but she’s obviously a brave little girl with a strong will to live. And with that her cheery personality and great sense of humor, the future sure looks bright for her!
