Qatar continues its strong presence among the friendliest nations for Muslim tourists by making it to the top 10 list of countries. It saw a dip by one place with Saudi Arabia gaining the spot, where Muslims rush to perform umrah.

The index was prepared by Islamic travel company CrescentRating and credit card frim MasterCard. A total of 130 countries are ranked based on factors like ease of travel for Muslims, access to halal restaurants and the provision of prayer rooms in airports, shopping malls and hotels.

Malaysia continues to the rule chart by topping for the seventh consecutive year. It is followed by UAE, Indonesia and Turkey. In the non-majority Muslim countries category, Singapore was considered the best followed by Thailand and UK.

Qatar managed to secure the spot as there was an improvement, take a look at these numbers:

  • Prayer space access(100 in 2017 and 2016) and airport services (100 in 2017 and 2016);
  • Air connectivity(93 in 2017, 87.7 in 2016);
  • Halal dining options(90 in 2017 and 2016); and
  • Safe travel(90 in 2017 and 2016)

However, it needs to make amends in the Muslim Visitors category as it dropped further from 15.7 in 2016 to 14.3 this year. One of the major advantages of Qatar is its safety and stability in a region that is not.

WEF (World Economic Forum) also reported that Qatar has the second most competitive economy in the Middle East when it comes to travel and economy. Meanwhile, Doha was listed as one of the top global destinations in travel website Frommer’s.

However, it was also criticized by a few, Condé Nast Traveler listed Qatar as one of the world’s most unfriendliest destinations for tourists. A readers’ survey had complaints about traffic and ‘rude’ people in Doha.
