Qatar Wants Middle East To Be A Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone

Qatar has expressed the importance of establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East by placing all the nuclear facilities in the region under comprehensive safeguards of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) in compliance with the resolution of 1995 NPT Review Conference and in accordance with the mechanisms agreed upon at the 2010 Review Conference.

It also stressed on the failed 2015 Review conference. It appeared in the statement by Qatar’s Ambassador to Vienna and its permanent representative to the IAEA, Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, before the First Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

The statement also warned about the gravity of the international situation, the exacerbation of international and regional crisis, the increased focus on nuclear weapons and the growth of cyber wars.
