Tricycle driver Romy Garcia woke up early so he could start off at 5AM and earn around Php1,000 a day to send his children to college. Finally, he was able to relax when all of them earned their bachelor’s degree and now working on their own.
He not only educated them academically but also in life because they were clearly raised as thankful children who appreciated his hard work. They got him a car!
On the Labor Day special at ABS-CBN’s, Garcia was recently honored “It’s Showtime” segment, he made sure to send all his children to college because this was the only thing that he could really give them that would ensure their future.
“Talagang pinagsikapan ko ‘yon [education] dahil ‘yon lang ang talagang maiiwan ko sa mga anak ko, ‘yong pag-aaral nila. ‘Yan ang hindi magagalaw ng kahit sino. Dala nila ‘yan kahit saan sila mapunta,” the tricycle driver dad revealed.
Because of his determination to earn and educate his children now they have completed their education, His eldest son graduated from Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE). One graduated from an Education course, another from Computer Science, and the fourth from Business Management. His youngest child graduated from an IT course.
“Ang masasabi ko lang sa lahat ng magulang na sana lagi ninyong gabayan ang inyong mga anak dahil yaman natin ‘yan, at tulad ko na tricycle driver, huwag ninyong ikahiya, maging proud kayo dahil diyan kung bibigyan ninyo ng panahon ang pagtra-tricycle makapagpatapos po kayo ng mga anak ninyo,” he advised other parents.
Garcia revealed that his children are now working and have contributed so their house could be renovated.
His best moment was when they asked him to go to a car dealership as they would give him a car but he wasn’t sure they weren’t joking; so, he didn’t bother changing clothes or wearing shoes when he went there. Much to his surprise, his kids really did buy him a brand new car! Isn’t that sweet?
