Qatar Likely To Get Another Taxi Operator Soon

Qatar is on the verge of getting another taxi operator as transport company Mowasalat has invited bids for another franchise from interested parties under the Karwa Franchise Programme. If this turns out to be true then it will be the fifth taxi franchisee of Karwa.

The first Karwa franchisee, Al Million (maroon roof) was launched in July 2012, followed by Alijarah (blue), Capital Taxis (grey) and Ibin Ajayan Trading and Contracting and Yellow Taxis. The new operator should be a Qatari-owned company having a capacity to operate 500 taxis.

The existing franchisees are not allowed to participate in the bidding, June 5 is the last date for submitting the bids. Mowasalat had announced a couple of years back that the country will have a minimum of 7000 taxis by the end of the decade.

Recent queries with four franchisees reveal that they together operated 2500-2750 taxis while Karwa runs more than 1500 cabs in the country. The roof of the cars helps in distinguishing between different operators.
