A 10-year-old who is now five months pregnant after being repeatedly raped by her stepfather and now her future lies on the decision that will be taken by a panel of doctors, who will be deciding whether the girl should be allowed to have an abortion.
The girl from Rohtak in India was repeatedly harassed when her mother was out. The Indian law does not allow abortions after 20 weeks unless the woman’s life is in danger. The stepfather has been arrested and further investigation will be carried out by the officials. The girl’s family want the doctors to terminate the pregnancy.
The girl was threatened by the man and told her not to tell anything to her mother. Several petitions has been referred to the medical experts by the Supreme Court in recent times and this will also be decided by the panel of medical experts.
The crime rate against women in the country is on an all- time high with national capital, Delhi, alone registering a staggering 2199 rape cases in 2015. Around 40000 rape cases are officially recorded every year and it is believed that the number would be much higher if the unofficial cases are added.
