Over 2,900 needy families and 17,000 workers benefited from the assistance provided by Eid Charity’s ‘Food Saving Bank’ in April, according to The Sheikh Eid Bin Mohammed Al Thani Charitable Association.
The charity has 11 vehicles for collecting food from the donors. People working on the ‘Food Saving Bank’ project received the food items and meals from Qatari donors, then re-packed and distributed them among the needy people.
The ‘Food Saving Bank’ vehicles collect surplus food from homes, companies, weddings and other gatherings and distribute it to needy families and individuals including low-income workers and housemaids.
This innovative humanitarian initiative of the Foundation distributed ready meals, dry cereals, vegetables, fruits and other food items among the needy last month. The food items were donated by Qatari people to be distributed among the workers and needy families.
The aid included distribution of 35,000 meals, more than 20,000 kilos of various food items, including 1,500 kg of fruits and vegetables, 500 kg of dates, 400 kg of rice, 200 kg of sugar, 200 kg of meat and chicken, in addition to 300 canned tuna.
