A Yemeni man is jailed for 10 years and fined for QR200,000 as a punishment for selling and consuming illegal drugs. The Doha Criminal Court has ordered his deportation after serving the jail term.
However, a friend of the defendant from the nationality was sentenced for six months in jail and fined QR10,000 for consuming hashish, also an illegal drug.
Ministry of Interior department received information that a person used to sell cannabis and consume it personally. The peddler was approached by an undercover officer and after a small talk, he agreed to sell some pieces of marijuana for QR4,000.
The deal took place under police surveillance and the defendant was arrested for possession of illegal drugs, which were hidden in his house and vehicle.
The second defendant happened to be with him at the time of arrest.
