The Health Inspection Section of the Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality conducted an inspection campaign on the commercial complexes and supermarkets to have a tighter control on the local market and fight commercial fraud during the month of Ramadan.
The campaign was conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce’s (MEC) Consumer Protection Department. It mainly concentrated on meat shops and resulted in spotting a number of outlets manipulating the prices of meat products.
Inspection of the meat and poultry shops and their fridges, meat processing tools, equipment and work areas to ensure the safety of workers were conducted during the campaign.
The inspectors focused on applicable food health and safety regulations, and the necessary rules of hygiene on daily basis. Random samples are regularly taken from the meat, fish, milk and poultry products for further analysis.
During Ramadan, more focus is given to the control on the slaughterhouses within the municipality due to the increasing consumer demand.
