Qatar revealed one of its FIFA World Cup Stadium, which is almost complete. However, some of the minds have managed to divert attention to something else. Few people said that the stadium looked like a huge vagina.
The Al Wakrah stadium will be hosting matches up to the quarter-finals with a seating capacity of up to 40,000 fans. The stadium was designed by British-Iraqi architect, Dame Zaha Hadid, who passed away in 2016 due to a heart attack.
The design for the stadium which was released in 2013 was inspired by the shape of a dhow boat. But, some of the people in internet obviously have a different take.
Hadid said: “It’s really embarrassing that they come up with nonsense like this.
“What are they saying? Everything with a hole in it is a vagina? That’s ridiculous.”
Hadid, a respected designer who worked on numerous iconic buildings around the world, added: “If a guy had done this project there wouldn’t have been the same level of criticism.”
Meanwhile, the stadiums will be installing water cooling technology in order to combat extreme heat in the country that can easily go past 40 degrees Celsius. Also, the tournament will be moved to the winter months.
It works by piping cold air through 100 ventilation units into the stadium, which has a 92m retractable roof which provides shade to the pitch.
